Journey toward Sahara

Questo reportage è tratto da un viaggio che parte da Tunisi ed è diretto verso sud fino a varcare le porte del deserto del Sahara. Ho attraversato le località di TOZEUR, DOUZ, KSAR GHILANE, il grande lago salato di CHOTT EL JERID (circa 5000 km²), DEBBABCHA, NOUEIL, ZAAFRANE, NEFZAOUA, OFRA, il villaggio berbero ancora abitato di CHENINI, TATAOUINE, KSAR OULED SOLTANE, KSAR ZARA, le abitazioni troglodite di MATMATA, GABES, TOUJANE. Durante gli spostamenti è evidente un aumento esponenziale del gap culturale tra i cittadini della capitale, da poco uscita dalla recente primavera (2010-11) e dove è in corso un lento processo di democratizzazione, e le popolazioni dei villaggi più vicini al Sahara o quelle nomadi che lo attraversano durante i loro flussi migratori. Queste ultime non sembrano aver risentito minimamente dei cambiamenti politici e sociali in atto continuando a vivere secondo il loro stile di vita tramandato di generazione in generazione.

 

This reportage is based on a journey that starts from Tunis toward South to the gates of Sahara desert. I went through TOZEUR, DOUZ, KSAR GHILANE, the great salt lake of CHOTT EL JERID (about 5000 km²), DEBBABCHA, NOUEIL, ZAAFRANE, NEFZAOUA, OFRA, the berber village of CHENINI still inhabited, TATAOUINE, KSAR OULED SOLTANE, KSAR ZARA , the troglodyte homes of MATMATA, GABES, TOUJANE. While traveling there was an exponential increase in the cultural gap between the citizens of Tunis, just emerged from the recent spring (2010-11) and where a slow process of democratization is ongoing, and the populations of the villages close Sahara or nomads who cross it during their migrations. These populations don't seem to be affected by political and social changes. They continue to live according to their way of life handed down from one generation to another.
